“find someone who has done what you want to do and has helped someone do what you want to do "

Takeaways from Ed Andrew talking with Tim Alison.

Tim Alison is the host of the Screw the Naysayers podcast with guests such as Seth Godin, David Meltzer and of course myself! He is also an author and serial entrepreneur, at 61 he is on a mission to get people recently retired or contemplating retirement to follow their passion to start a business and keep generating income. In this short episode of Down the Rabbit Hole we take a deep dive into how to start, Tim shares his insights and things to do and what to avoid.

Tim's tips

  • don't be intimidated by technology

  • don't underestimate the skills that you already have

  • the biggest obstacle is usually the fear of failure

  • ask friends, family and colleagues what you are good at write a short story around your idea

  • test your ideas

  • find a problem that you care about and have some knowledge of

  • don't spend money just because you have it - that is a common mistake and often leads to frustration and an empty bank account

  • use lean canvas tools - definitely don't write a long business plan
